The Tackle Box

Do you have the time,

To go fishing for Me today.

Have you taken time to sing?

Have you taken time to pray?

Have you checked out the lake?

What do you think you can bring in?

Have you gone into the deep,

Where there is ugliness and sin?

What tackle did you bring?

Did you bring hope and peace?

Are you wanting to keep what you catch,

Or practice “catch and release”?

What’s in you tackle box?

What talents did you bring?

Are you living like the devil,

Or do you represent the King?

You carry a special brand,

So bring it to the table.

Give them the opportunity,

To be who they are able.

Every fish looks different.

They all prefer a different bait.

Some will strike quickly.

For some you will have to wait.

The bait you present to them,

Has to look good from the start.

It has to give them something,

That will satisfy their heart.

The lake is so full of captives.

We need to show them how to be free.

Be obedient to your Captain,

Before you set out to sea.

Matthew 4:19

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Luke 5:4-7

4Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

Many of the people in the day of Jesus were fisherman, so when Jesus spoke to the m in parables, he would use the example of fishing. I like the lesson about letting the nets out into the deep, after they had fished all day and gave up. When they listened to Jesus, and did what He said, there were so many fish that were able to be caught, if they just fished deeper. There were enough fish to have a need for all of the fisherman to help with their nets.  To me this means that too many times we are superficial when we go out to gather in people to Jesus. We are willing to fish on the surface, but not willing to go out into areas which frighten us. We want to have all the answers, before we go out to minister to others. This is foolishness on our part, since we cannot know all there is to know or to even offer such to others. We can offer safety and peace, but we have to show love and peace. We live in a day, when there are plenty of people drowning in the deep pits of life. We need to venture into the deep for those who are lost and gather them in. then we can let God do the rest. That does not mean to abandon them, but rather to let God reach them and speak to them where they are at in life, so that they will understand and desire more of Him. We do not need to compete with other churches or denominations. There are plenty out there in need. We also need to offer different people the different sides of God which they might need. He is a Savior, a Healer, a Friend, a Life-line, a Comforter, a Peacemaker, a Counselor, and a wise Father and King. Present all of this to others.
